Training and Future Expectations

Okay. Hello.
I am out of tune with my blog-writing abilities since it has been a minute since I’ve written one (*ahem* a year and a half, but it feels like wayyyyyy longer); however, I am back for the foreseeable future of my life as this is how I want to make missions updates until something more viable makes itself known.

But you’re here to hear (read?) about my foray into the world of missions, and especially where I am at right now.

Well, I’m sitting at the kitchen table in my parents house after getting off a shift at a coffee shop– not exactly what people expect me to be doing, but that’s where I am at.

Anyways, as of right now, I am a Representative of Pioneer Bible Translators working towards becoming a field-ready Translation Specialist. This will not happen until I finish an MA in Linguistics. I am currently applying to Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand with the goal of getting an MA in Linguistics focusing on Translation (as well as a Certificate in Foundational Linguistics).

If you are here from my Cambodia internship then you know that I actually got to visit Thailand and this university at the end of that trip, and I was AMAZED at how welcoming and highly-spoken-of the program was. The professors are all actively working linguists, the students are from all over, and they were all very understanding of the fact I was barely lucid the whole tour due to a high fever, a cold, and the stress I was facing after my internship.

The application for all of this is due in January, and I will hear back about it all in February. If this all turns out good and dandy, I will move to Thailand in late April or early May. Then I will officially be on the next step towards completing my training to get out in the field!

I will talk more about grad school as it comes to time, but I do hope to visit friends and family in-person before I move. We’ll see what happens, but please be praying about this process– about sufficient funds, safety, and the very hard process of saying goodbye for a long time.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

     Lydia
